Augsburg appoint Jess Thorup as new head coach
Augsburg named Jess Thorup as the Bundesliga club’s new coach Sunday on a contract until June 2025.
The 53-year-old Dane takes over from Enrico Maassen, who was sacked at the start of the week after a 2-1 defeat to promoted Darmstadt.
Augsburg are 15th after winning just one of their first seven matches this season.
Thorup had been out of work since leaving FC Copenhagen in September 2022, just months after guiding the club to the Danish league title.
He has also had spells with Midtjylland, Belgian sides Gent and Genk, and coached Denmark’s Under-21s for two years between 2013 and 2015.
