Report: Tottenham seal £40M deal for Leicester’s Maddison

Tottenham Hotspur reached an agreement with Leicester City on Wednesday to sign midfielder James Maddison for £40 million, The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg reports.
Spurs accelerated their pursuit after Newcastle United dropped their interest in Maddison to complete a reported £60-million move for Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali.
Leicester reportedly made Maddison available after suffering relegation from the Premier League in May.
The Foxes had hoped to receive closer to £60 million for the English international, according to Steinberg.
Maddison is now set to become Tottenham’s second summer signing after goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who joined the north London side from Empoli on Tuesday for a reported £17.2-million fee.
