Erik ten Hag Yet To Agree To New Manchester United Contract

Erik ten Hag has revealed that he has yet to finalize a new contract with Manchester United, acknowledging that the process will not be “easily done.” This comes after the club’s new Ineos-led football board assured him that his position as manager is secure, even after the team finished eighth in the Premier League but won the FA Cup.

After deciding to keep the former Ajax coach, Ineos is prepared to extend Ten Hag’s contract beyond its remaining 12 months. However, Ten Hag emphasized that more discussions are necessary with United, who confirmed that they had considered former Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain coach Thomas Tuchel as a potential replacement.

“Manchester United and I still have to find an agreement for the new contract,” Ten Hag told Dutch broadcaster NOS. “This isn’t easily done; we are still going to have to talk about this. United have told me that they spoke with Tuchel, but they eventually came to the conclusion that they already have the best manager.”

Ten Hag, who took charge at United in 2022, mentioned that club officials met with him while he was on holiday in Ibiza to discuss his future.

“Manchester United disturbed my holiday, they suddenly stood at my doorstep,” he said. “They flew to me in Ibiza. Ineos took their time. They are new in football; it’s normal to reflect on the season. It’s no secret that they talked with multiple candidates.

“Here in Holland, this is ‘not done,’ in fact, it’s not even allowed here. But in England, they have different rules and laws. As in any organization, and that seems very sensible to me, there is an evaluation. Conclusions were drawn from there. The new leadership is playing football for the first time.”

Ten Hag’s future at Manchester United remains a topic of ongoing negotiation as both parties work towards a mutually beneficial agreement.
