Manchester United have struck an agreement with Wolves to land Brazil international Matheus Cunha in a £62.5 million transfer. The 26-year-old forward becomes Ruben Amorim’s first recruit of the summer, with United triggering the release clause in his Molineux contract.

Cunha, who has 13 caps for Brazil, travelled to Manchester to undergo a medical at the weekend. He departed the Lowry Hotel in Salford early Sunday to join Brazil’s squad ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Ecuador on Thursday night – a match marking Carlo Ancelotti’s debut as national team coach.

The deal awaits final clearance on visa and registration formalities, and will be completed after Cunha returns from international duty later this month. The forward is expected to sign a five-year contract, with United holding an option to extend by a further year.

Cunha netted 31 times across 76 matches for Wolves after his permanent switch from Atletico Madrid in 2023. He had initially joined Wolves on a loan in the season prior, which the Premier League club converted into a £35 million full transfer.

Following United’s lowest-ever Premier League finish — 15th — Amorim is aiming to rebuild a misfiring attack heading into the new campaign.
