Leny Yoro banned from driving for six months after speeding offence near school

Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has been handed a six month driving ban after being caught driving at more than double the speed limit as he passed a school in south Manchester.

The 20 year-old centre back was fined a total of £1,052 after his £170,000 Porsche Cayenne was recorded travelling at 72mph in a 30mph zone on Mauldeth Road West in Withington in August 2025. Court documents confirmed that Yoro was driving at nearly two and a half times the permitted speed on a road lined with homes, a secondary school and a sports club.

Yoro was sentenced at Crewe Magistrates Court on the 21st of February and received a six–month disqualification, a £666 fine, £120 in court costs and a £266 victim surcharge. He was not required to attend the hearing, which was conducted through the single justice procedure, allowing magistrates to decide the case based on written evidence.

In a letter submitted to the court, Yoro’s lawyer Lisa Nevitt said the player accepted responsibility and had entered a prompt guilty plea. She wrote that Yoro understood a driving ban was likely given the speed involved and would not seek to challenge the disqualification.

The letter added that Yoro apologised for the incident, explaining he had been rushing to take a friend to the railway station and believed the road was clear at the time. He also stated that the section of road was broad and that he felt there was little chance of encountering pedestrians or other vulnerable road users.

The incident occurred shortly after 4 pm on August 28th 2025, a time when the area can be busy due to school and commuter traffic. Court papers also revealed that initial requests for driver information sent to Yoro’s home address in Cheshire went unanswered.

Magistrate Sunjeep Bhalla convicted and sentenced the player based on the written evidence presented, bringing the case to a close.

Yoro joined Manchester United last summer and has been gradually establishing himself in the first team. The club has not commented publicly on the ruling.
