  • Neymar said he remains determined to make the Brazil national football team squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
  • Coach Carlo Ancelotti left Neymar out of the latest squad, citing fitness concerns.
  • Brazil will face France national football team and Croatia national football team in upcoming friendlies in the United States.

Neymar has said he is still dreaming of representing Brazil at the World Cup despite being left out of the national team squad for this month’s friendlies.

Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti excluded the forward from the squad for matches against France and Croatia, stating that the player is not yet fully fit.

Speaking during a live broadcast, Neymar admitted his disappointment but said his focus remains unchanged.

“Obviously I’m upset and sad not to have been selected,” Neymar said.

“But the focus remains the same, day after day, training session after training session, match after match.

“We’ll achieve our goal. There’s still one final squad announcement to go and the dream lives on.”

Neymar, Brazil’s all-time leading scorer with 79 goals, has not featured for the national team since October 2023 after suffering a serious knee injury involving his ACL and meniscus.

The 34-year-old is aiming to play in what would be his fourth World Cup, although injuries have limited his involvement since returning to action with Santos FC.

Ancelotti has not ruled out selecting Neymar for the final World Cup squad, which is due to be announced on May 18, but stressed the importance of the player regaining full fitness.

“Neymar needs to keep working, playing, showcasing his qualities and maintaining good physical condition,” Ancelotti said.

Neymar later thanked supporters for their messages on social media.

“Trust the process; whatever will be, will be. Work in silence,” he wrote.

Fitness issues have continued to affect Neymar’s performances, including a subdued display in a recent 1-1 draw with Sport Club Corinthians Paulista.

Brazil will play France on March 26 in Boston before facing Croatia on March 31 in Orlando as they continue preparations for the World Cup.
