Manchester United Agree Deal for Atalanta Midfielder Éderson

Manchester United have agreed a deal with Atalanta for midfielder Éderson, sources have told ESPN, with the Brazilian set to become the club’s first signing of the summer transfer window.

Atalanta have accepted an initial fee of £35 million ($47 million), with a further £4 million available through performance-related add-ons. Éderson is expected to sign a contract running until 2030, with the option of an additional year.

The 26-year-old will also become the first player signed since Michael Carrick was appointed as Manchester United’s permanent head coach.

Sources told ESPN that United have been monitoring Éderson for an extended period and were able to move quickly after a proposed transfer to Atlético Madrid stalled.

Éderson has established himself as one of Serie A’s most consistent midfielders during his four seasons with Atalanta, making 180 appearances for the Italian club. He has also earned three caps for Brazil’s national team.

The transfer is expected to be completed once the midfielder undergoes and passes a medical examination.

With an agreement for Éderson now in place, United are expected to intensify their pursuit of West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes.

Sources have told ESPN that United have already opened discussions with West Ham regarding a potential deal for the 21-year-old, who is anticipated to leave the London club following their relegation to the Championship.

United are also looking to strengthen at left-back during the summer window amid concerns over Luke Shaw’s ability to cope with the demands of competing in both the Premier League and Champions League. Club officials are understood to be assessing options in the position as they prepare for the new campaign.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Andre Onana is expected to report back to Carrington for preseason training if a move away from Old Trafford is not finalised before then.

The 30-year-old spent last season on loan at Turkish side Trabzonspor and has been informed that he is not part of Manchester United’s plans for the upcoming season. However, sources say Onana intends to return for preseason preparations should an exit not be arranged beforehand.

Carrick’s first summer as permanent head coach is already gathering momentum, with Éderson poised to arrive as the cornerstone of United’s squad rebuild ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
