Faritz Hameed calls time after 15 years of football
9 JUNE 2023 – Ex-Singapore defender Faritz Hameed has confirmed his retirement from football, bringing an end to a 15-year career that began in 2009.
The 33-year-old announced the news on Wednesday evening via his Instagram account, one day after his current team Tanjong Pagar United won a pulsating encounter against the Young Lions by four goals to three in the AIA Singapore Premier League (SPL).
Hooked onto the sport from a young age, Faritz started his professional career with the Young Lions in 2009. Alongside other up and coming footballers like Hariss Harun and Isa Halim, the marauding right back was highly regarded and impressed many with his trademark runs down the right wing.
Faritz would also go on to represent the Singapore National Under-23 football team in the Southeast Asian Games enroute to claiming two bronze medals in the 2009 and 2013 editions of the regional competition.
After four years with the Young Lions, Faritz was selected to be part of the Lions XII squad for the 2013
