Harry Maguire Urges Manchester United to Get Recruitment Right

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has said the club must deliver in the transfer market this summer, stressing that not every signing is equipped to cope with the demands of playing at Old Trafford.
Maguire has committed his future to United by signing a new contract and has been part of a squad that has moved into third place under Michael Carrick. The improvement has been shaped in part by recent arrivals, including Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Šeško and Senne Lammens.
He said last summer’s business has helped close the gap on Manchester City and Arsenal, though he expects further additions to shape the next phase.
“I always want to be part of a squad that I felt like could compete and the recruitment went well last year,” Maguire said. “This summer is going to be big. We have got to recruit really well.”
United face a reduced schedule without European competition next season, a factor Maguire believes increases the need for depth.
“We have played 40 games at the end of the season and we definitely need a bigger squad next year,” he said.
Recruitment has been a recurring issue since the club’s last Premier League title, with several high profile signings struggling to deliver consistent performances. Maguire has seen those challenges closely during his time at the club.
“I see a lot of players come into this club and quite frankly it is just too big for them,” he said. “The scrutiny, the analysis, every goal that goes in, it is intense. That is part of playing for this club.”
United’s squad have been in Dublin this week preparing for the visit of Leeds United, with the team in a strong position heading into the final stretch of the season.
Maguire believes that with the right additions, the club can move from competing for Champions League qualification to challenging at the top of the table next season.
