Jorginho Speaks Out After Daughter Left in Tears Following Hotel Incident
• Jorginho says his daughter was left “extremely shaken” after a confrontation with a security guard
• Incident involved singer Chappell Roan, who denies any involvement and apologised
• Rio de Janeiro mayor Eduardo Cavaliere threatens to ban Roan from performing in the city
Jorginho has criticised the treatment of his family after an incident involving a security guard left his daughter in tears during a hotel breakfast.
The midfielder said his wife, Catherine Harding, and their 11-year-old daughter were eating when they noticed Chappell Roan at a nearby table.
According to Jorginho, his daughter briefly walked past the singer, smiled, and returned to her seat before a security guard approached.
“A large security guard came over to their table while they were still having breakfast and began speaking in an extremely aggressive manner,” Jorginho wrote.
“He said my daughter shouldn’t ‘disrespect’ or ‘harass’ other people and even threatened to file a complaint with the hotel, while my daughter was sitting there in tears.”
Jorginho said the incident had a significant emotional impact.
“My daughter was extremely shaken and cried a lot,” he added.
The Italy international said he understands the pressures of public attention but insisted the situation had been handled poorly.
“What happened there was not that. It was just a child admiring someone,” he said. “No one should have to go through this, especially not a child.”
At the end of his statement, Jorginho criticised the treatment of fans.
“Without your fans, you would be nothing,” he wrote.
Roan later responded in a video, saying she was unaware of the situation at the time.
“I didn’t even see a woman and a child. No one came up to me. No one bothered me,” she said.
She added that the security guard was not part of her personal team and apologised to those involved.
“I’m sorry to the mother and child if you felt uncomfortable. You did not deserve that,” Roan said.
The situation has also drawn a political reaction, with Eduardo Cavaliere voicing support for Jorginho and stating he intends to ban the singer from performing in Rio de Janeiro.
