Kai Havertz said Arsenal remain capable of competing for major honours after their Champions League quarter final victory over Sporting CP.

Havertz scored a stoppagetime winner in Lisbon to secure a 1-0 result, giving Arsenal an advantage ahead of the second leg. The goal followed consecutive domestic defeats, including losses in the EFL Cup final and the FA Cup.

The forward said the performance represented an important response from the squad, adding that the team remains united and focused on the final weeks of the season. He stated that Arsenal are still in contention for major trophies and intend to compete across all remaining competitions.

Mikel Arteta said the result reflected a return to the team’s established approach after a difficult period. He added that expectations remain high and emphasised the importance of maintaining perspective while continuing to compete at a consistent level.

Arsenal remain unbeaten in European competition this season and are aiming to reach the semi finals for a second consecutive campaign. They also hold a significant lead at the top of the Premier League.

Havertz highlighted the contribution of David Raya, who made several key saves during the match. The goalkeeper denied late efforts from Geny Catamo and Luis Suarez to preserve the clean sheet before the decisive goal.
