Singapore to face Guam in Round 1 of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2026™ and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™
SINGAPORE, 27 JULY 2023 – Singapore will go up against Guam in Round 1 of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 which will begin in October 2023.
The draw was conducted earlier today at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Due to the expansion of the 23rd FIFA World Cup to 48 participating teams, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has introduced changes to the qualification format, offering eight and a half slots for the continent’s national teams. As a result, the 20 lowest-ranked Member Associations (MAs) will be divided into ten pairings to play one home and one away match on 12 & 17 October, 2023 respectively, in order to qualify for Round 2.
Should Singapore qualify for the second round, they will face the likes of Thailand, China PR and Korea Republic in Group C as 36 teams compete in a home-and-away round-robin format between November 2023 and June 2024 to determine the group winners and the respective runners-up that will advance to t
