Manchester United has reached an agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the acquisition of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha. The 26-year-old is poised to be United’s inaugural signing of the summer as the club has activated a £62.5 million release clause in his current contract with Wolves.

Cunha, who previously played as a midfielder for Atlético Madrid, will commit to a five-year contract at Old Trafford, with an additional year option. Over the past weekend, he was in Manchester undergoing a medical examination ahead of the switch.

The completion of this transfer is contingent upon visa approval and usual registration protocols, and it is anticipated to be finalized once Cunha returns from international commitments with Brazil later this month. Recently, he departed the Lowry Hotel in Salford to join his national squad.

Brazil is set to clash with Ecuador in a World Cup qualifying match on Thursday, marking Carlo Ancelotti’s inaugural game at the helm. Cunha boasts an impressive record at Wolves, having netted 31 times in 76 appearances since his permanent signing in 2023, after a fruitful loan stint the year before.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is keen on bolstering United’s offensive lineup following a disappointing 15th-place finish in the Premier League last season.
