  • Arsenal surrendered a two goal lead in a dramatic late draw at Molineux
  • Mikel Arteta criticised his side’s second half performance
  • Manchester City closed the gap in the Premier League title race

Mikel Arteta admitted Arsenal deserved to drop points after a damaging secondhalf collapse saw them held to a 2-2 draw by bottom side Wolves at Molineux.

The Gunners appeared to be in full control after Bukayo Saka opened the scoring inside five minutes before Piero Hincapie doubled the lead shortly after the interval. What followed was a dramatic reversal of momentum that left Arteta frustrated and searching for answers.

Hugo Bueno pulled one back to ignite belief inside the stadium before Wolves completed their comeback deep into stoppage time. Thomas Edozie capitalised on a costly misunderstanding between David Raya and Gabriel, with his effort deflecting off Riccardo Calafiori and into the net.

The late equaliser means Arsenal now face renewed pressure at the top of the Premier League table, with Manchester City closing to within five points and holding a game in hand.

Arteta was visibly disappointed after the match and offered a frank assessment of his side’s second half display.

“It is very tough to accept,” Arteta said. “In the second half, we did not perform in the way we should and the way we require to win a Premier League match. You have to take the hit because we deserve it.”

The Arsenal manager urged composure in the immediate aftermath of the setback, stressing the importance of accountability and focus rather than emotional reaction.

“It is very easy with emotion to say things that can damage the team. Everyone wants to do their best. You have to go through tough periods. Today at the last minute, we paid the price. We have to do basic things much better than we have done.”

Arsenal will now look to respond quickly as the title race intensifies, knowing that further slip ups could prove costly in the closing weeks of the season.
