Enzo Fernandez - Enzo Fernández Casts Doubt Over Chelsea Future After Champions League Exit
  • Enzo Fernández said he is unsure about his future at Chelsea F.C. after their exit from the UEFA Champions League.
  • Chelsea were beaten 3-0 by Paris Saint-Germain F.C. on the night, losing 8-2 on aggregate.
  • Head coach Liam Rosenior declined to comment on the midfielder’s remarks.

Enzo Fernández admitted he is uncertain about his future at Chelsea following the club’s heavy Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Chelsea were eliminated after a 3-0 loss at Stamford Bridge, with goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Bradley Barcola and Senny Mayulu sealing an 8-2 aggregate victory for PSG.

Speaking after the match, Fernández said he could not guarantee he would remain at the club next season.

“I don’t know,” he said. “My focus is here for now. We have eight Premier League matches to play and the FA Cup. Then the World Cup coming up, so we’ll see after that.”

The Argentina international, who joined Chelsea from S.L. Benfica in 2023, is under contract until 2032 and currently serves as vice-captain.

Rosenior said he had not seen Fernández’s comments and avoided discussing speculation about the player’s future.

“It’s hard for me to speak on speculation after a game,” Rosenior said. “I need to focus on the most important things.”

Chelsea’s elimination was met with frustration from supporters, who booed the team at half-time and full-time.

Fernández acknowledged the team’s shortcomings across both legs of the tie.

“In the first leg, we lost focus in the final minutes and conceded three goals, and here it happened at the very start,” he said.

“At this level, you can’t concede goals so quickly. PSG were the better side and deserve to go through.”

He added that Chelsea must now focus on their remaining domestic objectives.

“Our focus must be on winning the FA Cup and qualifying for next season’s Champions League,” Fernández said.

Rosenior also faced criticism for substituting Fernández, Cole Palmer and João Pedro before the hour mark.

The Chelsea head coach said he understood the reaction from supporters given the nature of the defeat.

“This is a club where the fans want success instantly,” Rosenior said. “I understand why they are frustrated.”

Chelsea remain outside the top five in the Premier League, as they continue their push to secure qualification for next season’s Champions League.
