  • Arne Slot described Liverpool F.C.’s 4-0 win over Galatasaray S.K. as “almost the perfect game.”
  • Liverpool overturned a first-leg deficit to reach the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.
  • Mohamed Salah scored his 50th Champions League goal, becoming the first African player to reach the milestone.

Arne Slot said Liverpool delivered “almost the perfect game” as they beat Galatasaray 4-0 at Anfield to progress in the Champions League.

Liverpool overturned a 1-0 first-leg deficit with a dominant display, as Dominik Szoboszlai, Hugo Ekitike, Ryan Gravenberch and Mohamed Salah all found the net.

Slot praised both his players and the supporters for their role in the performance.

“From start to finish, I think we played the game I was hoping for,” Slot said.

“Not only did we play the perfect game from start to finish but our fans did as well.”

The Anfield crowd created a strong atmosphere throughout, responding after frustrations were evident during the previous league match against Tottenham Hotspur F.C..

“There was a great dynamic between fans and players,” Slot said. “Almost the perfect game from us and definitely from our fans.”

Salah played a key role despite missing a first-half penalty, assisting Ekitike before scoring in the second half.

Slot highlighted the forward’s response as a sign of his mentality.

“It says a lot about him that after you miss a penalty, you can come back and perform like that,” Slot said.

“He assisted and then scored a goal he has done many times for this club.”

Salah’s goal marked his 50th in the Champions League, a milestone that underlines his consistency at the highest level.

The forward was substituted in the 74th minute and received a standing ovation from the Anfield crowd.

Slot said the change was due to a minor concern rather than performance.

“He came off because he felt something,” Slot said. “We will assess him ahead of the weekend.”

Liverpool now move into the quarterfinals with renewed confidence following one of their most complete performances of the season.
