  • Arsenal turn attention to Champions League tie against Sporting CP

Christian Norgaard has urged Arsenal to respond quickly after their FA Cup quarter final defeat to Southampton.

Arsenal’s hopes of progressing in the competition ended with a 2-1 loss at St Mary’s Stadium, where Southampton secured a semi final place with a late goal from Shea Charles. The result followed a recent defeat in the EFL Cup final against Manchester City.

Norgaard said the squad must maintain a positive approach and avoid dwelling on the result, stressing the need to focus on upcoming fixtures. He added that analysis of the performance is necessary, though attention must shift quickly to the next matches.

Arsenal face Sporting CP in the Champions League quarter final, followed by a league fixture against AFC Bournemouth. The team remains in a strong league position despite the recent setbacks.

Arsenal struggled to impose consistent control during the match, with Southampton creating key chances. Ross Stewart opened the scoring before Viktor Gyokeresequalised. Charles then secured victory with a decisive finish in the closing stages.

Southampton’s performance reflected sustained form, with the team extending an unbeaten run and demonstrating defensive organisation and attacking efficiency. Stewart described the result as a significant moment for the club and highlighted the collective confidence within the squad.

The win keeps alive Southampton’s ambition of reaching Wembley and pursuing promotion, with attention now turning to a league fixture against Wrexham.

For Arsenal, the focus shifts to maintaining momentum in league and European competition, with Norgaard emphasising the importance of collective responsibility and response following a difficult result.
