Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has said Mohamed Salah will receive a fitting farewell from the club’s supporters even if injury prevents him from playing again this season.

Salah was forced off with a hamstring problem during Liverpool’s win over Crystal Palace, casting doubt over his availability for the final four matches of the campaign. With his departure expected in the summer, the injury could mean he has already played his final game for the club.

Liverpool are awaiting scan results to determine the severity of the issue, but Van Dijk said the forward’s legacy ensures he will be celebrated regardless of whether he returns to the pitch.

“I know he is doing everything in his power to be back as soon as possible,” Van Dijk said. “He will get the send-off regardless. That is not the main thing right now, we just hope he can recover quickly.”

Van Dijk added that Salah’s mentality and professionalism give him a chance of returning before the season concludes.

“Knowing Mo, he is a quick healer,” he said. “With the right support around him, we will see what happens.”

Salah has been a transformative figure for Liverpool since joining in 2017, scoring 257 goals in 440 appearances and establishing himself as one of the club’s all-time greats.

During his time at Anfield, he has played a central role in a period of sustained success, helping the club win the Champions League, two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, European Super Cup and Club World Cup.

Individually, he has claimed three PFA Player of the Year awards and four Premier League Golden Boots, underlining his consistency at the highest level.

Whether or not he features again this season, Salah’s contribution ensures he will receive a memorable farewell from Liverpool supporters.
