Barcelona are exploring a potential move to bring Marc Cucurella back to the club this summer, with the Chelsea defender reportedly under consideration to strengthen their back line.

Cucurella, a product of Barcelona’s La Masia academy, made just one senior appearance before leaving in search of regular football. He later moved to Brighton & Hove Albion in 2021 and joined Chelsea a year later.

The Spain international has since established himself as an important figure at Stamford Bridge after overcoming a difficult start. He was part of the squad that won the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup in 2025.

Reports from Spain suggest Barcelona have discussed Cucurella internally in recent days as they evaluate defensive reinforcements ahead of next season. The club’s familiarity with the player and his development since leaving has made him an attractive option.

Barcelona currently have Alejandro Balde and Gerard Martín as left-back options, but uncertainty surrounding Balde’s future could prompt a move in the transfer market. Cucurella’s experience and versatility are seen as assets that could fit into the squad.

Despite the interest, a deal may prove difficult. Cucurella still has two years remaining on his contract at Chelsea, and the club are unlikely to approve a sale easily given his importance to the team.

With Chelsea also set to appoint a new permanent manager following recent changes, any decision regarding the defender’s future is expected to involve the incoming head coach.

Barcelona’s interest highlights Cucurella’s resurgence, but a return to Camp Nou will depend on multiple factors, including Chelsea’s stance and the player’s own intentions.
