Tottenham Hotspur took a major step toward Premier League survival with an impressive 2-1 win over Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Spurs delivered arguably their best performance of the season, with first-half goals from Conor Gallagher and Richarlison earning three vital points and lifting them out of the bottom three.

Under Roberto De Zerbi, Tottenham appear revitalised, registering consecutive league victories for the first time since August and emerging as favourites to avoid relegation.

The visitors started strongly and nearly took the lead inside two minutes when Richarlison saw his effort blocked after a high press forced an early mistake. The breakthrough came in the 12th minute as Gallagher fired home from distance for his first goal for the club.

Tottenham continued to dominate, with João Palhinha coming close to doubling the lead, only for Emiliano Martínez to tip his effort onto the post.

The second goal soon followed when Richarlison headed home from close range after a delivery from Mathys Tel, capitalising on Martínez’s attempt to claim the ball.

Villa, managed by Unai Emery, struggled throughout and produced one of their poorest displays of the campaign, with their focus seemingly on their upcoming Europa League semifinal.

Their only meaningful contribution came deep into stoppage time when Emiliano Buendía headed in a late consolation, but it was not enough to deny Spurs a deserved victory.

Tottenham’s high pressing and intensity echoed the style associated with De Zerbi’s previous teams, offering clear signs they can retain their Premier League status.

The result sees Spurs leapfrog West Ham United in the table, with a favourable fixture ahead that could further strengthen their survival bid.

For Villa, the defeat represents a missed opportunity to edge closer to securing Champions League qualification, leaving Emery’s side with work still to do in the league.
