Alabama woman boards flight to Texas bachelorette. Then California TSA pulls a bullet casing from her hat: ‘I don’t even bring tweezers’

Some folks really like to test their limits with TSA; others prefer to take the conservative route. This Los Angeles woman posted a video of her items going through TSA. Among those items was what appears to be a hat adorned with something that might be perceived as a weapon.

Did she get away with it?

Eve’s (@ebtilley) video has gathered over 16,000 likes and 320,100 views. It features her items paused on the TSA scanner with the text overlay, “Another day of explaining to California TSA that this is a bullet casing, not an actual bullet- signed, a girl from Alabama.”

Eve explains in the comment that she is on her way to a cowboy-themed bachelorette party in Texas. Naturally, she had to bring her cowboy hat. In addition to the bullet casing, the hat features a playing card and a matchbox on the brim.

Eve urges folks that there is nothing to be concerned about, that the bullet casing is empty.

Viewers in the comments seem to be concerned about Eve’s discretion.

“You can’t pick any other hat to bring with you?” one person asks.

“Why would you bring that anywhere NEAR an airport,” another says.

“I don’t even bring tweezers. Just SAY you don’t fly often,” someone else says.

“Lol they took a pin that was shaped like a shotgun shell off my backpack…it was about 2 cm long and plastic,” someone else shares.

In one comment, Eve responds to folks saying, “Guys I’m going on a cowboy-themed bachelorette in Dallas, Texas. I don’t just take my cowboy hat to the grocery store,” in her own defense.

Another viewer is on Eve’s side: “Omg ppl don’t get it -signed Texas yall is a CASING. CASINGGGGGGGGG,” they say.

Is it TSA approved?

It turns out, Eve is actually doing a very much TSA-approved thing. TSA does allow bullet casings on carry-on and in checked bags as long as they are empty, which in this case they were. The TSA site states the following:

“Empty shell casings are allowed in carry-on bag as long as the projectile is no longer intact. They are allowed only if the primer has been removed or has been discharged. If the projectile is attached & the powder has been drilled out, it is considered a replica and not allowed in carry-on.”
