Arne Slot has said he disagrees with Jamie Carragher’s assessment that Liverpool are a “team of individuals,” insisting instead that his players are working together during a difficult period.

Carragher made the comments following Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur, questioning whether the squad had fully gelled despite their individual quality.

“I agree with a lot of things Jamie has said throughout this whole season,” Slot said.

“This particular one, I disagree with him. I don’t see this after we conceded for 1-1.”

Slot pointed to his team’s reaction after conceding as evidence of their unity.

“After so many disappointments, it would not have been strange if the players had given up. But they did not,” he said.

He added that Liverpool’s defensive effort late in the game demonstrated their collective commitment, with multiple players tracking back to protect their goal before launching a counter-attack.

“A team that has given up, a team of individuals or a team that does not work together does not show that resilience,” Slot said.

The Liverpool head coach did acknowledge that his side is still developing cohesion, particularly due to limited time playing together.

“That we are still not a unit that I want, we agree on that,” he said. “But that comes with not playing so many times together.”

Slot stressed that the issue is not individual mentality but rather improving connections within the team.

“I see a team that is fighting together,” he added.

Liverpool will now turn their attention to Wednesday’s Champions League round-of-16 second leg against Galatasaray at Anfield, where they must overturn a 1-0 deficit to progress.

Some supporters booed at full time following the draw with Tottenham, but Slot said he remains confident the fans will back the team in the upcoming European fixture.

“It’s never nice that they are frustrated because usually fans are not frustrated after you win,” he said.

“But I also know how football works. Winning can change a lot. That’s what we are trying to achieve.”
