Chalobah says Chelsea players must share blame after Rosenior exit

Trevoh Chalobah has said Chelsea’s players must accept their share of responsibility for the turmoil that led to Liam Rosenior’s dismissal.
Chelsea’s 1-0 FA Cup semifinal win over Leeds United at Wembley, secured by Enzo Fernández’s first-half header, marked a sharp improvement from the 3-0 defeat to Brighton that proved the final game of Rosenior’s tenure.
Under interim head coach Calum McFarlane, the performance showed renewed organisation and determination, offering hope after a difficult run that has seen the team lose five consecutive Premier League matches without scoring.
However, Chalobah insisted the players must look inward rather than attribute the club’s struggles solely to managerial changes.
“No matter what manager goes, it’s difficult,” he said. “But we can’t use that as an excuse. At the end of the day, we have to look at ourselves and take responsibility.”
Chelsea’s mentality has been under scrutiny in recent weeks, with performances declining sharply before Rosenior’s departure. Chalobah acknowledged the need to rediscover the intensity and commitment that defined earlier parts of the season.
“It’s about hunger and determination,” he said. “Winning second balls, winning headers, doing the small things right. When we do that, our quality shows.”
The defender added that the squad must reset mentally to recover their form and meet expectations.
“It’s still the same players. We haven’t lost our ability overnight,” he said. “It’s about getting that feeling and mentality back.”
While the FA Cup run offers a chance at silverware, Chelsea’s league form has left their hopes of Champions League qualification hanging by a thread. Chalobah stressed the importance of securing European football in any capacity.
“This is Chelsea, it’s where we want to be,” he said. “We have to do everything we can to get into Europe.”
Chelsea now face a crucial period as they attempt to salvage their season both domestically and in cup competition.
