Harry Kane has brushed aside concerns surrounding the high temperatures expected at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting England’s extensive preparations mean the conditions will not become a decisive factor during the tournament.

The England captain continued his remarkable goalscoring form with the winner in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over New Zealand, heading home late in the first half to secure the result in sweltering conditions.

Played in temperatures reaching 33°C, the match offered another test of England’s readiness for a World Cup that has generated significant debate over heat management across host cities in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Yet Kane believes too much attention is being paid to the issue.

“To be honest, I don’t think the heat’s been too bad,” Kane said after the match.

“Obviously, we’ve been getting used to it in training. After the first couple of days, I felt like most of the lads were used to it.

“Today actually didn’t feel terrible out there, so I think there’s a talking point that might get over spoke about, to be honest.”

England have been based in Florida since arriving earlier this week and are using the warm climate to acclimatise ahead of their tournament opener against Croatia in Dallas on June 17.

Kane, who also experienced similar conditions during last year’s Club World Cup in the United States, believes the squad’s professionalism and preparation will ensure the weather becomes a secondary concern once the tournament begins.

“We’re all professional athletes,” he said.

“We all have done the right preparation to get ready for this tournament between us and the staff as well.

“We have another 10 days or so until that first game, training in this environment, so I think come the tournament, it won’t be a factor.”

The Bayern Munich striker’s goal against New Zealand was his 67th across club and international football this season, underlining the form he carries into what could be one of the final major tournaments of his England career.

Despite manager Thomas Tuchel expressing concerns about aspects of England’s first-half display, the friendly served its primary purpose of building fitness and adapting to unfamiliar playing conditions.

Kane admitted the pitch was challenging but viewed the outing as another useful step in England’s preparations.

“The surface was a bit sticky,” he said.

“But, look, we’re here for preparation, we’re here for getting fitness, dealing with the heat, dealing with these type of pitches, so ultimately it’s another day done and we look forward to another friendly game in a few days.”

Beyond the physical preparation, Kane also spoke of his excitement at leading England into another World Cup, describing international football as the pinnacle of his career.

“Playing for England is my favourite thing to do,” he said.

“I wear the shirt with immense pride, I wear the armband with immense pride, trying to set the right example for my team-mates, the staff, but also the fans and the country.

“To be able to lead another group of guys into another World Cup is obviously a special feeling.”

England enter the tournament carrying the weight of expectation once again after reaching the semifinals in 2018 and the quarterfinals in 2022.

For Kane, however, the focus remains simple.

“We go into it with high expectations,” he said.

“For me I’m just excited for this thing to get going. I feel as good as I’ve ever felt and it can’t come soon enough.”

England will complete their preparations with a final warm-up match against Costa Rica in Orlando before beginning their World Cup campaign against Croatia, the same nation that ended their dreams in the 2018 semifinals.

Eight years on, Kane remains the figure England will look to once again as they chase the biggest prize in international football.
