  • Manchester United await Maguire’s suspension, with defensive changes possible for upcoming fixtures

Harry Maguire has been charged by The Football Association after his sending off in Manchester United draw with AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

The centre back received a red card from referee Stuart Attwell in the second half after a challenge that led to a penalty for Bournemouth. Junior Kroupi converted from the spot to level the match at two all, allowing Bournemouth to secure a draw.

A statement from The FA confirmed the charge and set out the allegation linked to Maguire’s conduct after the dismissal. The governing body stated that the defender is accused of improper conduct and of using abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards fourth official Matt Donohue. Maguire has been given until April 2 to submit a response.

Maguire faces an automatic one match suspension following the red card. This ban is expected to rule him out of the Premier League fixture against Leeds United at Old Trafford on April 13.

Manchester United are monitoring defensive availability ahead of that match. Lisandro Martínez is being assessed after injury, with the club hopeful of his return to partner Leny Yoro in central defence.

Matthijs de Ligt remains unavailable after a back injury that has kept him sidelined since November, limiting additional options in defence.
