  • Jamie Carragher said it will be difficult for Arne Slot to regain support from Liverpool F.C. fans.

  • Liverpool remain outside the top four and face a key UEFA Champions League match against Galatasaray S.K..

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has said it will be difficult for Arne Slot to win back the support of fans following their reaction to the team’s recent results.

Supporters were seen leaving Anfield early during Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur, with some also booing Slot and the players at full time.

Liverpool are currently fifth in the Premier League, two points behind Aston Villa F.C. in fourth place and 21 points adrift of leaders Arsenal F.C..

“It’s worrying, in terms of what Liverpool do this season,” Carragher said.

“The bigger point is how worrying it is for the manager. I think there’s a difference with most support in terms of what we see online compared to the match-going fans.

“It’s not easy for a Liverpool crowd to turn on a manager who has won a title less than a year before, but I felt there was a big shift on Sunday in terms of how the crowd felt about the team and the manager.”

Carragher said the reaction at full time reflected growing frustration among supporters.

“The booing at the end, that was proper booing from a disgruntled and unhappy fanbase,” he said.

“I think it’s going to be really difficult now for Arne Slot to get them back. Once you lose that crowd, it’s really difficult to get them back.”

After the match, Dominik Szoboszlai, who scored Liverpool’s goal, urged fans to remain united with the team during a challenging period.

Liverpool now face a crucial Champions League round-of-16 second leg against Galatasaray on Wednesday, where they must overturn a one-goal deficit to progress to the quarterfinals.
