Japan’s Ono calls time on glittering career

Shinji Ono, a Japanese football player and J1 League club Consadole Sapporo MF, waves to the audience at Sapporo Dome in Sapporo City, Hokkaido Prefecture on August 10, 2019, the last match before the transfer to FC Ryukyu in Okinawa Prefecture. 39-year-old Ono belonged to Urawa Red Diamonds, Feyenoord Rotterdam in Netherland, VfL Bochum in Germany, Shimizu S-Pulse and Western Sydney Wanderers Football Club in Australia. Consadole Sapporo won J2 in 2016 after Ono joined in 2014. In 2018, Consadole Sapporo jumped to fourth place, the highest in club history, at J1. FC Ryukyu, the first challenge of J2 this season, is currently placed 17th place, but individual potential is high, such as winning four consecutive wins from the start.
