  • Manchester City’s captains will reimburse 374 travelling supporters following the Champions League defeat in Norway
  • The squad leadership group said it was “the least they could do” for fans who went to the Arctic Circle
  • City return to action on Saturday v Wolves, then host Galatasaray next Wednesday

Manchester City’s captains have said they will refund ticket costs for the 374 supporters who travelled to Norway for Tuesday’s 3-1 Champions League defeat by Bodø Glimt.

Bernardo Silva, Rúben Dias, Erling Haaland and Rodri confirmed the move in a joint statement, calling it “the least we can do” and adding: “Our supporters mean everything to us. We know the sacrifice that our fans make when they travel across the world to support us home and away and we will never take it for granted. They are the best fans in the world.”

The bill for the travelling allocation is set to come in at close to £10,000, with the captains also referencing the conditions in Bodø as they continued: “We also recognise that it was a lot of travelling for the fans who supported us in the freezing cold throughout a difficult evening for us on the pitch. Covering the cost of these tickets for the fans who travelled to Bodø is the least we can do.”

City’s captains ended by looking ahead to the next fixtures, saying: “We’re ready to fight on Saturday for our game against Wolves and then again next Wednesday when we face Galatasaray in front of our amazing fans at the Etihad.”
