Rasmus Hojlund Aims Subtle Dig at Ruben Amorim After Manchester United Exit
• Rasmus Hojlund says he “rediscovered” his love for football after leaving Manchester United
• Striker suggests he was “put in a box” under former coach Ruben Amorim
• Hojlund thriving at Napoli with strong Serie A form
Rasmus Højlund has aimed a subtle dig at former Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim following his exit from Old Trafford last summer.
The Danish striker joined United from Atalanta in 2023 but struggled for consistency during the 2024-25 season, eventually sealing a move to Napoli on loan with an option to buy.
Hojlund has since rediscovered form in Italy, scoring 10 goals in 26 Serie A appearances, with reports suggesting Napoli are set to make his move permanent.
Reflecting on his time at United, Hojlund admitted he felt his opportunities had dried up under Amorim.
“It felt like it was over for me at one point,” he said. “I was put in a bit of a box at the end in Manchester. I knew there wouldn’t be much football for me if it continued like this.”
The 21-year-old also pointed to being left out of the squad for a match against Arsenal as a key moment in his decline at the club.
Since moving to Napoli, Hojlund says he has regained confidence and enjoyment in his game.
“Here at Napoli, I’ve rediscovered my love for football. I got a club that believes in me,” he said.
Despite criticism during his time in England, Hojlund insisted he never lost belief in his ability, even as media scrutiny intensified.
“I never stopped believing,” he added. “The image of me is always changing, but internally I remain self-critical and always want to improve.”
Hojlund’s resurgence in Italy marks a sharp contrast to his difficult spell at Manchester United, with the striker now focused on continuing his development and maintaining his upward trajectory.
