• Manchester United aim to open new 100,000-seater stadium by early 2030s
• Project expected to take four to five years once construction begins
• Land assembly and financing remain key steps before building starts

Manchester United are hopeful their proposed new stadium could be open within the next six years, according to the club’s stadium development leadership.

Plans for the 100,000-capacity venue were first unveiled in March 2025, with progress continuing behind the scenes despite limited public updates.

Collette Roche, the club’s stadium development CEO, said the construction phase is expected to take between four and five years once initial preparations are complete.

“But with a project of this scale, it can take one or two years before construction even begins,” Roche explained. “That includes securing land, financing and planning permission.”

The club is currently working on those early stages, with a target timeline that could see the stadium ready by the 2032-33 season.

The new venue is set to be built on the site of Old Trafford, although additional surrounding land is required to complete the development.

Negotiations with local landowners, including logistics company Freightliner, have been ongoing, with Roche expressing optimism that agreements could be reached soon.

“We want to create a stadium with the right facilities and connections to deliver a top matchday experience,” she said. “We’re progressing well and hope to share positive news in the coming months.”

Manchester United have not confirmed an exact opening date but insist the project remains on track within their projected timeframe.
