  • Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan has denied reports that the club has reached an agreement to sign Mohamed Salah.
  • Doğan said there are no plans for the Egypt international to travel to Trabzon and insisted speculation surrounding the move is inaccurate.
  • Salah remains a free agent after leaving Liverpool, while Besiktas have confirmed they remain in talks with the former Premier League forward.

Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan has rejected reports linking the club with Mohamed Salah, insisting there is no agreement in place for the Egypt international to join the Turkish side.

Speculation intensified over the weekend after reports in France claimed Trabzonspor were close to overtaking Besiktas in the race to sign the former Liverpool forward.

Further rumours suggested Salah would arrive in Trabzon during the club’s 59th anniversary celebrations on Sunday.

Doğan dismissed those claims and made it clear that no agreement has been reached.

“There is no such agreement,” Doğan told Turkish outlet A Spor.

“As for plans to bring him to Trabzon, there is no such plan. There is nothing to it.”

“If there were such a plan, information would be provided from our side, the press would be informed, and so on. There is no such thing.”

While ruling out an imminent deal, Doğan acknowledged that Salah would be a player any club would welcome.

The Trabzonspor president praised the 34-year-old’s achievements and recognised his standing in world football.

“Salah is a very professional, highly successful player known worldwide,” Doğan said.

“He is one of the players with the best careers out there. Of course, who wouldn’t want Salah? That is a separate matter.”

“But as of now, there is no such agreement involving our club.”

Doğan was also asked whether he had personally spoken with Salah during the current transfer window.

He declined to discuss any conversations but again stressed that supporters would be informed if negotiations reached an advanced stage.

“I don’t want to talk about this,” he said.

“Of course, the fans want to see a player like Salah, and so do I.”

“Bringing in certain players requires a certain stance and a certain way of behaving. That’s what I’m trying to do as president right now.”

“There is no agreement and no planned trip. We will inform our community and our fans as soon as there is a development.”

Doğan repeated the same message during Trabzonspor’s anniversary celebrations on Sunday.

“There is no such agreement right now,” he said.

“I never said that the process continues.”

Salah is available as a free agent after leaving Liverpool at the end of last season.

The Egypt international ended his eight-year stay at Anfield with more than 250 goals and helped Liverpool win the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.

Trabzonspor’s Turkish Super Lig rivals Besiktas have confirmed they remain in discussions with Salah, although club officials have stated they will not improve their current financial offer.
