Helping out our furry and feathered friends in nature is an occurrence some people can’t ignore.

For example, one Virginia woman rescued a sick raccoon off the side of the road. Another Las Vegas woman rescued a stray dog she met in Mexico.

Now, one Idaho woman couldn’t resist the urge to assist a parched crow she stumbled upon at the airport.

Wandering outside, Idaho TikToker Sarah (@sarahbrianna702) shows her pov: “This crow had been trying to get in this bottle the whole time. We stood there.”

Then she decides to assist the crow, approaches the grass lot, and steps onto it. “I’m coming to help you,” she tells the bird. “I’ll open the water bottle.”

When she bends down, she twists off the cap and the crow returns. “Here you go,” the content creator says, placing the cap in front of the opening.

Immediately, the crow begins gulping down the water.  “Can we be friends?” Sarah asks as the crow continues to drink. By the way the crow doesn’t budge at her stroking its feathers, it may be a sign of a beautiful friendship.

Viewers are in awe

Sarah’s video amassed 1.5 million views, and the interaction with the crow successfully melted viewers’ hearts.

“I love how the crow stepped to the side when they gave you your allotted pets as their thank you! So much communication done silently! I love it so much,” one viewer praised.

“Crows NEVER forget your kindness. And… they tell generations about you. Always make friends with a crow,” another commented.

“That poor baby was just thirsty. He put all his trust in you and you didn’t disappoint,” a third stated.

“I love people who are this aware and then do something to help. Thank you for helping,” a fourth thanked.

Meanwhile, others didn’t waste any time joking about how parched the fellow was to want to drink Dasani.

“Everyone deserves better than Dasani,” one commenter quipped.

“You know he’s desperate if he’s begging you to open Dasani water,” a second jested.

Crow companion update

As viewers anticipated, the crow didn’t forget Sarah. In fact, it seemed to have followed her as it perched on her husband’s truck.

“You can trust us,” Sarah said to her newfound companion in a follow-up clip. “You want to come to the house?”

Then, the bird strided away from her husband, who had his arm extended to pet it, and flew away. Perhaps one day, it will return, but as of this writing, it hasn’t.

How smart are crows?

In a nutshell, they are considered one of the most intelligent animals in the world. Studies have shown their intelligence is comparable to that of seven-year-old children, demonstrating remarkable problem-solving skills, such as crafting tools and figuring out puzzles. However, one trait people commonly know about these avians is their excellent memory.

At some point in your life, you may have heard the trope of crows rewarding kind Samaritans with random gifts for their generosity. According to Chirp, this is known as “gifting” and is a form of social reciprocity, as corvids (crows, ravens, magpies, and jays) use this to communicate, though the intention behind it remains unknown. Although they recognize those who’ve helped them, the same applies to those who harmed them and hold a vendetta.

A popular University of Washington experiment demonstrated how sharp crows’ memorization is. Researchers wore “dangerous” and “neutral” human mask faces, per ScienceDirect. Those who wore the “dangerous” face trapped, banded, and released the birds.

Once the people returned to campus adorned in the masks, the outlet notes crows banded together to attack the “dangerous” faces but left the “neutral” faces alone. Likewise, the crows that weren’t involved in the abduction still attacked the ones captured on behalf. Regardless of who was under those masks, the birds mainly focused on the face itself and who they deemed a threat. Therefore, crows have an uncanny ability to remember faces.

For better or worse, word travels through the crow grapevine. So, if you stumble upon one, always be nice.
