Everton’s pursuit of Kenny Tete has ended with disappointment, after the Dutch right-back opted to extend his stay at Fulham until 2028.

The 29-year-old was out of contract and had appeared close to joining the Merseyside club, who were targeting him to strengthen their right flank. However, Fulham secured his services with a new three-year deal, ensuring continuity at the club he joined in 2020. Tete has made 119 appearances to date in a Fulham shirt.

Speaking to Fulham’s website, Tete said: “I’m really happy to have signed, for myself and for my family, and I hope I can give more for the fans in these three years. After my first year I knew this was a family club, a really special club where I can develop. I want to be part of this group and hopefully we can push for more.”

Everton had been confident of finalising terms and had earmarked Tete as a key signing. Their interest stemmed from a need to reinforce the position following the release of 39-year-old Ashley Young. Club captain Seamus Coleman has extended his stay for another season, while Jake O’Brien and Nathan Patterson have filled in where needed.

Carlos Alcaraz, signed permanently after a loan spell, remains Everton’s only addition so far this window. Manager David Moyes will now need to consider other options for right-back, which could include bringing in free agent Kyle Walker-Peters or reuniting with Vladimir Coufal, who played under him at West Ham.
