  • United expect Barcelona to pay the full agreed fee if they want to sign Marcus Rashford permanently
  • Rashford is settled in Spain and is keen to remain at the club beyond the current season
  • Michael Carrick has not pushed for a return despite the forward’s improved form

Manchester United have no intention of reducing the price agreed with Barcelona for a permanent transfer of Marcus Rashford and expect the Spanish club to meet the full valuation if they wish to retain him beyond the current season.

Rashford joined Barcelona on a season long loan last summer, with an option for the move to become permanent. The fee, believed to be between €30 million and €35 million, was agreed as part of that deal, and sources close to the situation say United are unwilling to reopen negotiations.

There has been speculation in Spain that Barcelona may attempt to renegotiate the terms in light of their financial constraints, but those close to Old Trafford insist the club remains firm. If Barcelona want to keep the England international, they will be required to meet the full figure agreed last year.

Rashford is understood to be keen on extending his stay in LaLiga after a productive campaign in which he has scored 10 goals in 34 appearances across all competitions. His form has helped reestablish his confidence following a difficult period in Manchester.

The 28 year-old was marginalised under former United head coach Ruben Amorim before spending a short loan spell at Aston Villa in early 2025. A subsequent move to Barcelona has revived his career, and sources say his preference is to continue in Spain.

Despite Amorim’s departure and the appointment of Michael Carrick as head coach, United’s stance has not shifted. While Carrick has reflected on Rashford’s impact during their time together under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, there has been no formal request to explore a recall.

Carrick is believed to be focused on stability and long term squad planning, and Rashford’s contract situation offers United a strong negotiating position. The forward remains under contract until 2028, having signed a long term extension in 2023.

United executives view the agreed fee as fair market value and see no financial incentive to compromise. With Barcelona keen to manage spending carefully, the coming months will determine whether the Catalan club are prepared to commit to the deal.

For now, Rashford’s future appears increasingly tied to Barcelona, provided they are willing to meet United’s valuation.
