  • Pep Guardiola says Manchester City are prepared for a difficult test against an in form Leeds United at Elland Road.
  • Leeds have lost only twice since December and have been boosted by recent strong away performances.
  • Guardiola believes rest and recovery have been vital in preparing his squad for the demanding Premier League schedule.

Pep Guardiola has described Elland Road as an “incredible” stadium as Manchester City prepare to face Leeds United in the Premier League on Friday.

Since the two sides were reunited in the top flight in 2020, Leeds have managed only one win in seven meetings. However, Guardiola is expecting a far tougher challenge this time against a resurgent Leeds team that has lost just twice since December.

Leeds’ season turned following a spirited second half performance at the Etihad Stadium in late November, and their recent away results at Chelsea and Aston Villa have added further belief.

Speaking at his pre match news conference, Guardiola said: “Elland Road is Elland Road and Daniel has achieved good results. They went to Stamford Bridge and Villa Park and got results. They have the boost of the home crowd, but we are ready for this challenge again.

“In 10 years, I have not been to Elland Road many times. Since Marcelo Bielsa promoted them to the Premier League, we have been there and it is an incredible stadium with a good vibe. We know it.

“I think there are a lot of Premier League stadiums that are traditional and really good. Elland Road is one of them.”

Guardiola, known for his intensity and attention to detail, has given his players extra time to rest ahead of the demanding run of fixtures. The City manager believes this approach is crucial to maintaining performance levels.

He said: “You know the idea, it is not to go to the Maldives. Since September and October, they have not had long weeks, so the moment you can have it, I learned in this country that less is more.

“When you can train less because of the schedule, you have to clean the mind and legs to come back better. If we win, it will have been perfect. If not, we have to play every three days.

“We have had our rest. We have made really good training sessions and we are ready for Elland Road.”

City will be aiming to maintain their momentum in the title race, while Leeds will look to harness the atmosphere at their historic home to continue their impressive revival.
