From a Private Session at Flixton to a La Liga Offer
Jadon Sancho has an offer on the table. Spanish side Getafe have made a formal approach to sign the former Manchester United winger, whose contract at Old Trafford ended in the summer.
BBC Sport reports that the winger has been exploring a number of options. An agreement is said to be complicated, but Getafe are keen to find a resolution. Sancho is said to favour a move away from England and remains open to all options.
Where Getafe Stand
Getafe are 14th in La Liga and are playing in the Europa Conference League this season. Earlier this week they signed former Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal on a free transfer. The 34-year-old Spain right-back was a free agent after his deal at the Bernabeu expired in June. He won 27 trophies with Madrid, including six Champions League titles, and has signed a contract until June 2027.
A £73m Signing Who Left for Free
Sancho cost United £73m when he moved from Dortmund in 2021. He spent five years at the club, and his time there was split by loans. He had spells with Dortmund, Chelsea and Aston Villa and returned to United each time. BBC Sport has reported that his run of loans followed a falling out with then United manager Erik ten Hag three years ago.
His move to Chelsea in the 2024-25 season included an obligation to buy. Chelsea paid a £5m penalty to send him back to Old Trafford instead, after he made 41 appearances. He scored in Chelsea’s Europa Conference League final victory in 2025.
Last season he was on loan at Villa, making 39 appearances as Unai Emery’s team qualified for the Champions League and won the Europa League. His only goal for the club came against Fenerbahce in the Europa League. He came on as a late substitute in the victory over Freiburg in the final, his third European final in three seasons.
The Flixton Visit
After his release, Sancho has been posting training videos on his Instagram account while he searches for a new team. In August he was spotted training at non-league Flixton, who play in the North West Counties league, and speculation spread on social media that a signing was close.
Flixton put out a statement on Instagram to settle the talk. “To clarify, Jadon was not on trial with the club and was not involved in any transfer discussions,” they wrote. They said he had used their facilities for a private session to keep his fitness up while preparing for the next chapter of his career.
The club had plenty of good things to say about their visitor. They called him “nothing but professional, humble, and generous with his time” and said he met young supporters, posed for photos and signed autographs after the session.
Sancho thanked the club in a video with Flixton manager Alex Mortimer. “You’ve got a nice layout, I must say,” he said, on his first visit to the area.
What Happens Next
Sancho was a youth player at Manchester City before he signed for Dortmund in 2017. At 26 he has been part of two European trophy wins in the past two seasons, and he now has a formal offer from a club in Spain.
The complications in the talks are the open question. Getafe are keen to find a resolution, and BBC Sport reports that Sancho remains open to all options.
