“I Take Responsibility”: Chivu Points the Finger at Himself
Cristian Chivu did not look for excuses after Inter’s 4-3 defeat to Club Brugge at San Siro. He pointed at his own half-time team talk. “Perhaps I should have conveyed more calm and composure at half-time without getting the team too fired up,” he said, and added: “I take responsibility for it.”
The result was Inter’s second defeat in the Champions League league phase, after an opening loss in Madrid. It leaves them on zero points near the bottom of the table. Chivu gave his comments to Sky Sport, and Goal carried a translated version.
Where Inter Lost the Thread
Chivu said his side lost control once the game turned. “After it went 2-1, we lost all our clarity, calm and game plan,” he said. He blamed frustration and haste: “A bit of frustration and haste led us to make mistakes.”
He also criticised the way his players pushed forward. “We pushed too far forward, forgetting to get back for the second balls,” he said. Lautaro Martinez scored twice for Inter in the defeat, according to Goal’s player ratings.
Worry Over the Goals Conceded
Asked about conceding 14 goals, Chivu was direct: “I couldn’t say I’m not worried.” He called the run his seventh defeat in his last eight European matches.
His conclusion was about balance. He closed with a call for balance: “We have to find more balance”.
Inter face Bologna in Serie A on 17 October.
