Benjamin Sesko says great things coming at United
- Benjamin Sesko backed Manchester United to finish the season strongly after a 2-2 draw at Burnley
- United remain without a permanent manager after Ruben Amorim’s exit, with Darren Fletcher still in interim charge
- Sesko said the squad is together and believes “great things are coming”
Benjamin Sesko says he is convinced “great things are coming” for Manchester United, even as the club searches for a new manager and the team’s start to 2026 has brought frustration more than points.
United are weighing up Ruben Amorim’s replacement after his 14 month spell ended following a 1-1 draw at Leeds. That came after a 1-1 home draw with Wolves to close 2025, then another draw on Wednesday when Darren Fletcher took charge for the first time as interim coach.
United were held 2-2 by Burnley at Turf Moor, yet they remain seventh and still close to the Champions League places. Sesko, who scored twice, said the mood inside the squad remains strong.
Put to the summer signing that United looked like a group with resilience and togetherness, he said: “Definitely. I think in general we’re a really great group.
“We’re doing everything to try prove ourselves every single time.
“We just have to keep going, keep pushing, because I think we’re great and, yeah, I believe that great things are coming.”
Fletcher will again be in caretaker charge for Sunday’s FA Cup tie against Brighton as discussions continue with leading candidates Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick about taking the job for the rest of the season.
Sources have told ESPN that Ruud van Nistelrooy, who led United for four games between Erik ten Hag and Amorim, is also being considered for the interim role.
For whoever takes over, Sesko’s two goals at Burnley offered a glimpse of what United hope to see more often from their 22 year old forward, who has found consistency hard to secure since arriving from RB Leipzig.
“It feels great because we created great chances, especially with those two goals,” Sesko said after doubling his United tally. “Great movements, great ball.
“With this kind of situation, we are showing what team we are, what we are capable of and, yeah, it’s great for the future, obviously.”
Sesko also made clear that performances alone will not satisfy United, with the table still demanding wins rather than encouraging spells.
“It feels obviously disappointing because I think we were fighting, we were giving our best, we were creating a lot of chances,” he told MUTV.
“Basically, the ball was two times in the net, like over the line, but the opponent just took it out.
“We’re creating good chances. Unfortunately, we received two goals.
“We still get a draw, which is important, but now it’s just up to us to try to focus on the details and try to win the next game.”
