Cole Palmer said his first experience as captain of Chelsea Football Club had been a significant moment after leading the side to a 7-0 FA Cup victory over Port Vale.

Palmer was handed the captaincy with Reece James unavailable through injury and Enzo Fernández suspended internally. The midfielder described the occasion as an important personal milestone and highlighted the importance of the result following a difficult run of fixtures.

Chelsea secured control of the tie before half time with goals from Jorrel Hato and João Pedro. Palmer contributed to a third goal that resulted in an own goal, giving the home side a clear advantage at the interval.

Further goals from Tosin Adarabioyo, Andrey Santos and Estêvão extended the margin in the second half. Alejandro Garnacho added a penalty in stoppage time to complete the scoring.

The result secured progression to the semi final at Wembley and provided a response after a sequence of defeats, including a heavy aggregate loss to Paris Saint-Germainin European competition and league setbacks against Newcastle United and Everton.

Head coach Liam Rosenior selected a strong lineup following a challenging period, with the performance restoring confidence within the squad. Palmer noted the positive atmosphere after the match and said the result could support momentum ahead of upcoming fixtures.

Chelsea are set to face Manchester City in their next league match.

For Port Vale, the defeat highlighted the gap in squad depth and experience. Manager Jon Brady acknowledged the difference in level, noting the presence of international players within the Chelsea squad.

Port Vale remain at the bottom of League One and face a strong likelihood of relegation with limited fixtures remaining in the season.
