Bukayo Saka sends Arsenal into first Champions League final in 20 years
- Bukayo Saka scores decisive goal as Arsenal beat Atlético Madrid
- Gunners progress 2-1 on aggregate to reach first final since 2006
- Mikel Arteta’s side remain unbeaten in this season’s competition
Bukayo Saka fired Arsenal into their first Champions League final in 20 years with a 1-0 win over Atlético Madrid in north London.
Saka struck just before halftime, tapping in from close range after Leandro Trossard’s effort was saved by Jan Oblak. The goal secured a 2-1 aggregate victory following last week’s draw in Madrid.
Arsenal will now face either Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich in the final in Budapest on May 30, as they chase a first-ever Champions League title. Their only previous final ended in defeat to FC Barcelona in 2006.
The match itself was a tense and physical affair, with Arsenal dominating possession but struggling to create clear chances early on. Saka’s goal proved decisive in a contest where both sides appealed for penalties without success.
Atlético Madrid, managed by Diego Simeone, saw their hopes of a first Champions League crown dashed once again, having previously lost finals in 2014 and 2016.
Arsenal’s defensive resilience was key, with the team conceding just six goals throughout the campaign so far while remaining unbeaten in the competition.
The victory caps a strong run for Arteta’s side, who have also regained momentum in the Premier League title race as they pursue their first domestic crown since 2004.
With confidence high and history within reach, Arsenal now turn their attention to the final as they look to complete a landmark season.
