  • Playoff tickets in Guadalajara and Monterrey start at 200 pesos
  • Prices contrast sharply with up to $8,680 for final in New Jersey
  • Bolivia, Jamaica and others competing for final berths

FIFA is selling tickets for next month’s World Cup playoffs in Mexico for less than $17, a fraction of the cost of seats for this year’s final in New Jersey.

Tickets went on sale on Tuesday for the matches on March 26 and 31 in Guadalajara and Monterrey, which will determine two of the final places at the 2026 World Cup.

Prices are set at 200 Mexican pesos, approximately $11.30, for the March 26 semi-finals and 300 pesos, about $16.95, for the March 31 finals.

In Guadalajara, Jamaica national football team face New Caledonia national football team on March 26, with the winner meeting DR Congo national football team on March 31 for a place at the World Cup.

In Monterrey, Bolivia national football team take on Suriname national football team, with the victor advancing to play Iraq national football team five days later.

The modest prices stand in stark contrast to those for the World Cup final in New Jersey, where tickets range from $4,185 to $8,680.

Following criticism from supporter groups over pricing, FIFA said in December it would allocate a limited number of $60 tickets for every match to the 48 national associations competing in the tournament. Each federation will determine how to distribute those seats to fans who have attended previous fixtures.

Most tickets listed on FIFA’s official resale platform are priced above $1,000. The governing body, which takes a 15% fee from both buyers and sellers, introduced the system in an effort to curb the secondary market.

FIFA has around seven million seats to fill across the 104 matches of the expanded tournament and said last month it received 500 million ticket requests. President Gianni Infantino has stated that all games are sold out, although some supporters reported receiving emails last week offering an additional 48-hour sales window.
