Man Says ‘Yes’ To Dessert At Olive Garden. Then He Sees What He Gets—And Has To Whip Out The Steak Knife

An Olive Garden diner recently struggled to finish his meal on a sweet note. That’s because when he ordered a cheesecake for dessert, it came out hard as a rock. He ended up needing a steak knife just to cut through it.
His wife, Bevy (@bevy_deo) was on hand to film the entire thing.
A quick review of Bevy’s TikTok reveals that her husband is the star of the show. She’s recorded him doing everything from teaching children “the Dominican ways” to reciting poetry. He’s good-natured about it all, and the internet is 100% on his side.
In this recent video, which has been watched over 768,000 times, it’s essentially man vs. cheesecake.
‘Anybody Got A Steak Knife?’
Soft, creamy, and sweet, a slice of cheesecake is the perfect ending to an Italian meal. Except this cheesecake isn’t cake-ing. As the video starts, the man is literally bearing down with a knife and fork on the caramel-drizzled slice. He’s sawing back and forth with his knife and observes that he really needs a different utensil to get through the cake.
“Anybody got a steak knife? he asks. “I never needed a steak knife to cut cheesesteak before.” His dedication to the cake-eating mission makes the entire table burst into laughter.
Finally someone at the table hands him a steak knife. The new knife seems to be working, but another problem arises. “Now the fork is stuck,” he says.
Finally, he’s able to break a forkful free. Then someone at the table gives him another thing to manage. They say, “You’re gonna break a tooth trying to bite it.”
The jokes roll in. “That’s why I order my cheesecake med rare,” said @frannyfruit.
Bevy replied, “Ohhh man best comment ever!!!
How To Ask For A Replacement At A Restaurant
Though Bevy’s husband and his party were all good sports about Olive Garden’s stone-cold cake, not everyone would be. Food & Wine notes that “Being served in a restaurant is fraught with the possibility of mistakes, but they can happen.”
The best way to handle mistakes is often with a conversation, and knowing what you want out of it. In this instance, the most reasonable thing would probably be to ask for a thawed-out piece of cheesecake. And the server would probably make the replacement graciously.
However, in just about any interaction, niceness is rewarded. Remember that asking for a manager (unless the service is truly egregious) is often an overreach. “Your server is going to have the same access to the chef as a manager would and maybe even be able to provide you with a better result,” advises Food & Wine.
Lastly, you might just take a cue from Bevy’s husband: Life gave him cake, and he made ice cream.
