Man United to Hold Talks with Jadon Sancho Before Deciding Future

Manchester United is planning to hold discussions with Jadon Sancho before making a decision on his future with the club. Sancho has been absent from United’s lineup since August, following a public dispute with manager Erik ten Hag.

The 24-year-old winger was loaned to his former club Borussia Dortmund in January, where he played a pivotal role in helping the Bundesliga team reach the Champions League final. Dortmund, however, fell short against Real Madrid, losing 2-0 on Saturday.

United aims to resolve Sancho’s situation by speaking directly with him before making any definitive moves this summer. According to a source, technical director Jason Wilcox and director of football negotiations Matt Hargreaves will engage with Sancho and his representatives ahead of the pre-season training commencement.

Players who are not involved in international tournaments are expected to return to United in July, with their first friendly scheduled against Rosenborg in Norway on July 15.

A source close to the situation indicated that a transfer remains the most probable outcome. However, Sancho’s significant market value and high wages present challenges for a permanent transfer. Borussia Dortmund is interested in re-signing the England forward but prefers negotiating another loan deal. Sancho, who has a contract with United until 2026, is reportedly open to the idea of returning to Dortmund.

During this period, Wilcox and Hargreaves are managing United’s summer transfer activities while the club finalizes the appointment of Dan Ashworth as their new sporting director. The process of bringing Ashworth on board has encountered delays due to Newcastle United’s compensation demands exceeding £20 million.

United’s recruitment team has identified several potential targets to enhance various positions within the squad, with priorities being a centre-back, central midfielder, and striker. However, sources revealed to ESPN that the club acknowledges that recruitment efforts “will not be up to full speed” until Ashworth assumes his new role.

Originally, United had hoped to have the 53-year-old in place before the summer, but it now appears his arrival may be postponed until after the transfer window. Ashworth, who previously worked for the FA and Brighton, has been on gardening leave since February 19 after notifying Newcastle of his intention to join United.

As United prepares for the upcoming season, the resolution of Sancho’s future will be a critical factor in their overall strategy. The club’s management is keen to address this matter early to ensure they make the best possible decision for both the player and the team’s future.

Headline: Ten Hag Laments Manchester United's Defensive Lapses in 3-3 Europa League Draw Against FC Porto Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag criticised his players for "switching off" during their 3-3 draw against FC Porto in the Europa League on Thursday. Despite taking a 2-0 lead within the first 20 minutes at Estadio do Dragao, United conceded twice in seven minutes to go into half-time level, before falling behind early in the second half. In a post-match news conference, Ten Hag expressed his mixed feelings about the result, saying, "We scored two great goals and then we switched off. We don't keep possession and defending, we're switching off. We concede the first goal totally unnecessary and then you light up the fire in this stadium and it becomes very tough." The Dutch manager revealed that he addressed the issues at half-time, but was disappointed with his team's defending for the third goal. "We addressed it at half-time and then you concede a third one, so unnecessary. It's no good defending again. That's also to do with some willingness in some moments," he said. Ten Hag also had to defend his decision to substitute Marcus Rashford at half-time, despite the forward scoring United's opening goal and looking sharp throughout the first half. Initially, the manager stated that the substitution was made to keep Rashford fresh for the upcoming match against Aston Villa on Sunday. However, he later hinted that the change was made because both of Porto's first-half goals had come from crosses on Rashford's side of the pitch. "Garnacho was my best player on Sunday by far and also in many other games," Ten Hag explained. "I think in the season as I assess it so far, he is bringing us so far the offensive threat by creating chances, assists, also scoring. Garnacho, we also had to play him as well and we have two very good players over that side." He added, "I have to watch [the game] back and I think over the left side definitely we didn't defend well tonight and Marcus also played a part in this. But, as I say, it had to do with Garnacho and nothing against Rashy." Despite the disappointing result, United managed to salvage a point thanks to a stoppage-time equaliser from substitute Harry Maguire. The draw leaves Manchester United with work to do in their quest to progress in the Europa League.
