• Defender set to extend stay with improved terms until at least 2027
• Club also in talks with Kobbie Mainoo over long term contract

Manchester United are nearing an agreement with Harry Maguire over a new contract, with discussions between both parties described as positive.

Maguire’s current deal is due to expire in June, but there is growing confidence that a renewal will be finalised soon. The proposed agreement is expected to run until 2027, with the option of a further year that could extend his stay at Old Trafford until 2028.

The 33 year-old has reestablished himself as a key figure under Michael Carrick, starting the last ten matches and playing a central role in the club’s improved form. His performances have also led to a recall to the England national football team squad, where he recently featured in the draw with Uruguay.

Despite interest from other Premier League clubs, Maguire is now set to be rewarded for his resurgence. He will miss United’s next fixture against Leeds United after being sent off in the draw with Bournemouth.

Carrick is hopeful of having Lisandro Martínez available again following the international break, with defensive options limited due to injuries to Matthijs de Ligt. Younger players have been required to step in during recent weeks.

The club are also continuing discussions with Kobbie Mainoo over a new long term contract. The midfielder is already tied down until 2027, but negotiations are ongoing to reflect his growing importance within the first team squad.
