PSG edge Bayern Munich to reach Champions League final against Arsenal
- Paris Saint-Germain draw 1-1 in Munich to win 6-5 on aggregate
- Luis Enrique guides defending champions back to final
- Arsenal await in Budapest showdown on May 30
Paris Saint-Germain have booked their place in the Champions League final after a 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich in the second leg of their semifinal, securing a 6-5 aggregate victory.
The defending champions had already taken a narrow 5-4 advantage from a dramatic first leg in Paris and managed to hold off Bayern’s pressure at the Allianz Arena to progress to the final in Budapest.
Ousmane Dembélé opened the scoring for PSG with a clinical first-time finish, set up by a surging run and cutback from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who continued his standout European campaign.
The match was not without controversy, as Bayern protested several refereeing decisions, including two incidents involving potential handball in the PSG penalty area. Despite appeals, VAR did not intervene, and Bayern were left frustrated as key decisions went against them.
Kvaratskhelia continued to make history, becoming the first player to register a goal or assist in seven consecutive Champions League knockout matches in a single season. He also moved level with Kylian Mbappé for the most goal contributions in this season’s competition.
Harry Kane scored a late consolation goal for Bayern, but it was not enough to prevent their elimination as PSG held firm to reach their second straight Champions League final.
Bayern, who had won five of their previous seven home meetings with PSG, were unable to replicate their historic treble-winning campaign of 2020, falling just short in their pursuit of another European final.
PSG now move on to face Arsenal, who defeated Atlético Madrid in their semifinal, setting up a highly anticipated final clash in Budapest.
Luis Enrique’s side will aim to make history by becoming only the second club to retain the Champions League title in the modern era, joining an elite group of European dynasties.
