Real Madrid to resume Vinícius Júnior contract talks as gap in negotiations remains

Real Madrid will resume contract negotiations with Vinícius Júnior this week, although the club remain unwilling to increase their latest offer to the Brazil international, sources have told ESPN.

The meeting, expected to take place on Wednesday, comes after Madrid presented an improved proposal following the FIFA World Cup, offering the winger an annual salary of approximately €22 million.

Despite renewed discussions, sources said the club’s position has not changed.

Madrid are not prepared to improve on that proposal, while Vinícius and his representatives continue to seek a deal worth closer to €30 million per season.

The difference between both valuations remains substantial.

Chief scout Juni Calafat continues to lead Madrid’s efforts to secure the 26-year-old’s long-term future and has been heavily involved in the negotiations, according to sources.

One club source confirmed the meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, while another source close to the player said discussions would take place this week.

Vinícius is entering the final year of his current contract, which expires in June 2027, and currently earns approximately €17.5 million per season.

If no extension is agreed, he would be eligible to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs from January before becoming a free agent at the conclusion of the campaign.

Interest in the Brazil international has intensified during the summer, with Premier League champions Arsenal monitoring his situation.

Sources close to the player believe the next contract will be the most important of his career.

They also believe Madrid should reward a player who has become one of the club’s leading figures since arriving from Flamengo in 2018.

During his time at the Santiago Bernabéu, Vinícius has played a decisive role in the club’s recent success, including scoring in two UEFA Champions League finals.

ESPN reported last week that Madrid would also consider a sale before the transfer window closes if negotiations fail to produce an agreement.

Sources said the Spanish club would seek a transfer fee of approximately €150 million despite the player entering the final year of his contract.

Vinícius returned to Real Madrid training on Monday following his post-World Cup break.

The forward completed medical assessments before joining his teammates for training under new head coach José Mourinho as preparations continue for the new season.
