Senegal Plan Trophy Parade Amid Ongoing Afcon Title Dispute

Senegal plan to parade the Africa Cup of Nations trophy before their friendly against Peru in Paris, underlining their refusal to accept the decision to strip them of the title.

The Senegal national football team claimed the trophy after defeating Morocco national football team in January, but the Confederation of African Football later overturned the result and awarded Morocco a 3-0 victory following a complaint regarding Senegal leaving the pitch during the final.

Senegal have appealed the ruling to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which has confirmed it will deliver a verdict as quickly as possible. The dispute centres on competition regulations relating to teams abandoning matches before full time.

Football Federation president Abdoulaye Fall described the decision as unjust and confirmed the country would continue to challenge it through legal channels. Senegal have assembled a legal team to contest what they believe is an unprecedented administrative intervention.

Despite CAF updating records to list Morocco as champions, Senegal have retained the trophy and will display it publicly at the Stade de France before facing Peru. The move reflects their position that the matter remains unresolved.

CAF president Patrice Motsepe has defended the integrity of the organisation’s disciplinary process, while Senegalese authorities have called for further scrutiny of the decision.

With the case now in the hands of CAS, the final determination of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title remains pending.
