England’s World Cup preparations have suffered an unexpected setback after Kansas City Police arrested two people following the reported theft of team equipment during the squad’s move from Florida to their tournament base.

The incident occurred after England completed their pre-World Cup training camp in Palm Beach Gardens on Thursday before travelling to Kansas City, where they will be based during the opening phase of the tournament.

According to sources, members of the Football Association’s logistics team were unloading equipment at the Swope Soccer Village when they discovered that several items were missing from a vehicle transporting supplies.

Training kit and other team equipment are believed to have been taken, although the FA is still working to establish exactly what has been stolen.

The matter was quickly reported to local authorities, prompting an investigation by Kansas City Police.

In a statement, the Kansas City Missouri Police Department confirmed action had already been taken.

“We are investigating a possible theft of equipment from a team vehicle that arrived in Kansas City with items missing this evening,” the statement read.

“The investigation is ongoing and two subjects of interest have been taken into custody.”

Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the suspects or the nature of the items recovered, if any.

The Football Association is continuing its own assessment of the missing equipment while working closely with law enforcement as inquiries continue.

Despite the disruption, England’s preparations for the tournament are expected to continue as planned.

Thomas Tuchel’s squad are scheduled to take part in a community training session on Saturday afternoon before turning their attention to next Wednesday’s Group L opener against Croatia in Dallas.

The incident represents an unwelcome distraction for England just days before the start of their World Cup campaign, although there is currently no indication that the theft will impact the team’s preparations on the pitch.

With police investigations ongoing and two individuals already in custody, officials will hope the matter is resolved quickly as England focus on their bid for World Cup success.
