Luis Enrique warns PSG against complacency ahead of Anfield test

  • Luis Enrique says Paris Saint-Germain must avoid a “trap” despite 2-0 first-leg win over Liverpool
  • PSG dominated in Paris but manager insists tie is far from finished
  • Second leg at Anfield expected to bring a very different challenge

There was no hint of celebration in Luis Enrique’s words. Just a warning.

Paris Saint-Germain were excellent in the first leg. Too quick, too sharp, too much for Liverpool. The 2-0 scoreline did not fully reflect the gap between the sides on the night. It could have been more.

And that is exactly why Enrique is cautious.

“It’s almost a trap,” he said. Not because PSG were poor, but because they were so good. The danger now is thinking the job is done. It isn’t. Not at Anfield.

Liverpool will come differently. They have to. There is no alternative when you are two goals down in a Champions League quarterfinal. The intensity will rise, the tempo will shift, and the margins will tighten.

Enrique knows that.

“You can concede in the first half and the game is still open,” he said. It was a reminder as much as anything. A message to his players not to drift, not to relax, not to assume.

PSG have been here before. Last season they had to chase the tie against Liverpool. This time they lead it. The psychology is different, but the approach, Enrique insists, must be the same.

Prepare properly. Respect the opponent. Expect problems.

There is confidence in this PSG side, and rightly so. Goals from Désiré Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia gave them control, and their overall performance suggested a team comfortable at this level.

But Anfield changes things. It always does.

Liverpool will believe, even after being outplayed. The crowd will expect a response. And PSG, for all their quality, will have to show they can manage not just the football, but the occasion.

Enrique’s message is clear. Nothing has been decided yet.
