Arne Slot plays down Alisson exit talk as Liverpool focus on fitness concerns
- Arne Slot declined to engage with speculation linking Alisson Becker with a summer move to Juventus
- Liverpool have already triggered a contract extension keeping the goalkeeper until 2027
- Injuries to Alisson, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Hugo Ekitike present immediate concerns for the Reds
Arne Slot has brushed aside growing speculation surrounding Alisson Becker’s future, insisting his focus remains firmly on getting the Liverpool goalkeeper back to full fitness.
Alisson, who is currently sidelined with a muscle injury, has been linked with a potential summer move to Juventus despite Liverpool activating a one-year contract extension that keeps him at Anfield until 2027.
Slot refused to be drawn into the rumours when speaking ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Crystal Palace, stressing that neither he nor the club are reacting to speculation.
“I am only focused on the short-term future and that is getting him back into goal as soon as possible,” Slot said. “We don’t react to rumours. We only react when facts need to be told and that is not the situation at the moment.”
He added that Alisson’s priorities remain clear, with the Brazilian aiming to return for both Liverpool and the national team.
Liverpool’s immediate concern is availability, with Alisson facing a race against time to be fit for the weekend. With Giorgi Mamardashvili also injured, third-choice goalkeeper Freddie Woodman could be set for another opportunity.
Slot’s squad has also been hit by a significant blow in attack, with Hugo Ekitike expected to be sidelined for an extended period after undergoing surgery on an Achilles injury.
“The surgery went well,” Slot said. “That is the first and important step, but it is going to take a long time. Recovery from this kind of injury involves many stages and it will take multiple months.”
The Liverpool head coach suggested that while Ekitike’s explosive style of play may complicate recovery, there remains optimism he can return stronger.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding injuries and transfer rumours, Slot’s message was consistent: the focus remains on the present, with Liverpool pushing to finish the season strongly and secure their objectives.
